With The Open fast approaching (have you registered yet? Go to games.crossfit.com to sign up) I want to give everyone some information on how we will be run The Open as well as Friday Night Lights this year. First off, as most of you know we will have two teams this year for a Battle of the Sexes! We think guys vs. girls will be a lot of fun and bring some good, friendly competition to the gym. If you ordered a shirt (designed by Devin!) they should be coming in this week. I also ordered a few extra for anyone interested in purchasing one.

What is The CrossFit Open? The Open is comprised of five workouts over five weeks beginning on February 22nd with 18.1. One workout will be released every Thursday night during the five weeks of the Open. You can watch the live announcement of the workout streamed on games.crossfit.com.We will be showing the live announcement of 18.1 on Thursday, February 22nd at 8:00 PM at the gym. That night’s 7:30 class will be cancelled and there will be open gym from 7:30-8:00. Please feel free to bring any snacks for our viewing party.

The Open WODs will be programmed on Friday every week. If by chance you are not able to make it on Friday morning or to Friday Night Lights, you are welcome to find a friend to judge you during open gym in order to submit your score.

What is Friday Night Lights? Friday afternoons from 4:00-7:30 during the Open we will host Friday Night Lights!! All athletes are invited to do the workout, cheer on their friends and teammates, and have a have a good time. This year we will have a different theme each week. The first week (2/23) will be wear your favorite band, concert, or non-CrossFit/fitness event shirt! Winning teams will have the opportunity to pick the theme for a future week.

How we will score our in house intramural Battle of the Sexes? Each week there will be 3 points up for grabs, 1 point for attendance on Friday Night Lights, 1 point for the winning RX score and 1 point for the winning Scaled score. We will determine the winning team by taking the average of the RX or Scaled score and comparing it against the best score in the world for each division. The team with the highest percentage of the world’s best score gets the points!

Last but not least, if you would like to submit an RX score to games.crossfit.com but want to submit a scaled score for the Battle of the Sexes (or vice versa), please e-mail Eric and make sure you have a judge and scorecard for each workout attempt.
