CrossFit for Strong Bones 🦴

Bone density contributes to the structural integrity of the skeleton, allowing for proper movement and supporting daily activities. Working to maintain or improve bone density is important as you age. Conditions such as osteoporosis increase the risk of a fracture. Strong bones are less likely to fracture from impacts or falls. Maintaining bone density helps prevent long-term complications associated with fractures, such as chronic pain, reduced mobility, and loss of independence.

Gail has been training one-on-one with Coach Zach here at CrossFit 781 since December 2023 with the primary goal of maintaining her bone density. The results of her bone density scan in April of 2025 said, “Your bone density shows osteoporosis but it is stable compared to your last bone density in 2022 with no further decline.” Gail added:

This is huge news for me. It means a lot of things, including not having to resort to osteoporosis medication right now. But more importantly, it means my physical training has paid off in multiple ways for which I am grateful. It’s easy to remain motivated to keep working hard when you get news like this!

CrossFit’s strength training and resistance exercises put stress on bones, stimulating them to produce more bone tissue and increase density. To stimulate bone growth, the load on bones should gradually increase over time.

When you work with a coach, they guide you to safely progressively increase the weight you’re lifting to build strength. Just like Gail did with Coach Zach!
